Daily Note

November 2022 - December 2022

Press Release

The Daily Note connected experience encourages individuals and communities to start or continue the habit of journaling by making it simpler to do so through a user hands-free experience.

PROJECT BRIEF

The Connected Experience that I designed is called 'Daily Note,' allowing users for a hands-free journaling experience. The goal of this project was to design a connected experience in which included five components: two internet enabled products, a chatbot/voice skill, a mobile/tablet app, and a human being. Starting off with the press release, I then created a multi-model flowchart as well as a component table. After design strategy and planning, I began designing 5 high fidelity screens for mobile utilizing Figma and recorded a demo for the app.

CONNECTED ECOSYSTEM

The app provides various features such as the ability to manage journal entries, view, edit, and delete as well as create unique titles for any existing journal entries. With the reminders feature, users are also able to keep track of notes set for specific days.

DESIGN FEEDBACK

Being able to read and reflect on the feedback that I've received has helped me throughout this project because it gave me insight on how to improve my designs, making the final high-fidelity prototype more user friendly.

What are connected experiences?

According to Valtech, connected experiences are "a means of undying digital capabilities and the physical world" (Duimstra, 2019). Connected experiences are also mentioned to be quite more complex than a simple definition, with the two critical goals of removing friction and eliciting emotion. However, "looking at the concept plainly, it can be defined as immerse customer experiences with multiple customer touchpoints, including apps, services, people, and physical spaces (Grigorie, n.d.).

What makes them unique?

Designers play an important role in the creation of connected experiences, "knowing the impact of design decisions becomes more and more crucial for designers in a connected age." The role that designers play in the creation of connected experiences includes creating consistent experiences, "part of that effort includes concepting new user interface solutions" (Teixeira, 2018).

DAILY NOTE DESIGN

Using the Adobe XD software, I designed 10 individual screens for the Hiking Safety app. While working on my designs, the Apple Human Interface Guidelines mentions that consistency is a key element in creating an app, it states that using well-known icons and standard text styles is a way to keep the design consistent. Human Interface Guidelines also mentions providing a launch screen, "design a plain screen that resembles your first app screen and doesn't draw attention to itself." I also referenced the system buttons, Apple states that you should "create button content that helps people instantly understand what the button does."

RETROSPECTIVE

The most challenging part about creating a connected UX product concept was brainstorming different ideas for the connected experience that I felt would be most useful for early adults. I really enjoyed designing the high fidelity screens the most throughout this project.

My creative process was challenged by this project because I definitely struggled with time management throughout this project. One of the similarities in the way that I approached this project includes taking peer feedback into account when revisiting my screens in order to create more user friendly designs. One of the challenges that I faced while prototyping my connected UX product was deciding on a color palette, I overcame this by utilizing a color accessibility checker.

Through this project, I preferred designing for digital over designing a connected experience because I really enjoyed being able to create different screens for the 'Daily Note' app. In order to improve my design process for future projects, I can improve my problem solving skills by working on my time management in order to work through the design process quicker and more efficiently.
